Additional information

Corns and Calluses

Corns and calluses – which build up due to both internal and external forces and pressures being applied to the foot – can be removed.
Verrucas are one of the most common virus infections of the skin and seem to be associated with swimming baths, sports centres and gymnasiums. They can be treated using a variety of methods, including chemical application and freezing.
The normal development of the toenails depends of an adequate blood and nerve supply. Regular nail growth can be affected by interference with either of these, or by other factors such as trauma, infection, nutritional deficiencies and certain skin diseases. Incorrect cutting may also lead to some painful conditions such as ingrown toenail, which can be treated effectively by a state registered chiropodist under local anaesthetic.

Biomechanical Examinations

Biomechanical Examinations – The foot is a complex structure made up of many bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Biomechanics looks at the structure and function of the foot and how it affects the rest of the body e.g. back, hips and knees. It aims to achieve the motion and positions of the foot which will give optimum function and stabilization, both in the feet and the entire skeletal complex. This approach enables symptoms such as corns, calluses, fatigue and strain to be alleviated by treating the underlying cause, which is normally done by the provision of orthotics.

State registered chiropodists are usually trained in the following additional areas; sports medicine, massage and strapping, physical therapies, footwear advice and bone surgery. Our state registered Chiropodist/Podiatrist Nichola Stevens is particularly experienced in sports-related injuries, as well as general foot ailments and diabetes.
Mobility and independence are essential to the quality of life. Unfortunately, for many people immobility is common cause of painful feet.
